Hosting Isn't Operations — Where WP Engine and Kinsta Stop
WP Engine and Kinsta are excellent managed hosts. They keep the server up. But hosting is the floor, not the ceiling. Plugin conflicts, theme updates, broken redirects, forms that stop submitting, performance regressions, security incidents — none of that is on the host. That is operations. And operations is where most WordPress sites fall apart.
What managed hosts actually do (and don't do)
WP Engine, Kinsta, Flywheel, and similar platforms handle a specific slice of the stack. They run infrastructure. They are good at it. Here is what falls inside their scope:
- Server provisioning, PHP/MySQL stack updates, and OS patches
- CDN, edge caching, and SSL certificates
- Staging environments and one-click deploys
- Basic WAF rules and platform-level DDoS mitigation
What they do not cover
Your host will not decide which plugins are safe to update. They will not investigate why a contact form stopped sending emails last Tuesday. They will not fix a broken theme merge, audit your redirects after a URL restructure, or write a monthly report your executive team can actually read.
- Plugin and theme compatibility testing
- Conversion or analytics regression diagnosis
- ADA/WCAG compliance and remediation
- Executive-ready monthly ops reports
The gap between "the server is up" and "the site is working correctly" is where most problems live. That gap is operations.
What managed operations covers
Operations starts where hosting ends. It is the layer that keeps the application healthy, not just the server. At Parameter, that means staging-first updates tested against your actual content and configuration before anything touches production.
It means verified backups, not just automated ones. We restore to staging monthly so you know the backup actually works. It means application-level performance tuning — Core Web Vitals audits, database optimization, render-blocking cleanup — not just toggling a CDN.
- Staging-first plugin and theme updates with rollback plans
- Monthly tested backup restores, not just "we took a snapshot"
- Application-level performance tuning and CWV optimization
- ADA/WCAG remediation with documented evidence
- Direct-line incident response, not a ticket queue
- Monthly executive reports covering ops, security, and performance
This is what Protect is. Managed WordPress operations starting at $750/yr per site.

Do you need both?
If your WordPress site drives revenue — leads, sales, bookings, donations — the answer is usually yes. Hosting keeps the server online. Operations keeps the business running on top of it. When those two layers are managed separately by different vendors, problems fall through the cracks. The host says "the server is fine." Your agency says "that is a hosting issue." Nobody fixes the actual problem.
When your managed host tells you the site is up but your checkout is throwing 500 errors, that is not a hosting problem — that is an ops problem. If you are there right now, we run a 2-hour emergency diagnostic with root-cause analysis and a clear action plan.
The Pulse bundle pairs managed hosting with Protect operations under one roof. One team, one escalation path, one monthly report. Starting at $999/yr, it is the most cost-effective way to cover the full stack from server to application.
For informational sites with low traffic, Protect on its own — paired with whatever host you already use — is often enough. For revenue-critical sites, the bundle removes the finger-pointing and gives you a single team accountable for the entire WordPress experience.
Migration from WP Engine or Kinsta
Moving off a managed host can feel risky. We handle the entire process so nothing breaks and nothing gets lost. Most migrations take 3–7 business days from kickoff to final validation.
Audit
We catalog your plugins, themes, custom code, DNS records, cron jobs, and integrations. Nothing gets missed.
Staging
Full site clone to our staging environment. We run functional tests, check forms, verify third-party connections, and benchmark performance.
DNS cut
Coordinated DNS migration during a low-traffic window. SSL provisioned in advance. Old host kept warm as a fallback.
Validate
Post-migration checks: uptime monitoring, form submissions, analytics tracking, Core Web Vitals, and redirect verification.

Can I keep my current host and still use Protect?
Yes. Protect is host-agnostic. We work alongside WP Engine, Kinsta, SiteGround, or any cPanel/Plesk environment. We coordinate with your host for server-level changes and handle everything at the application layer ourselves.
What if something breaks after a plugin update?
Every update runs on staging first. If something conflicts, we catch it before production. If something still slips through, we roll back immediately and troubleshoot. That is the difference between "auto-update" and "managed update."
How is this different from a maintenance plan?
Most maintenance plans run updates and send a screenshot. Protect includes security monitoring, ADA remediation, performance tuning, incident response, and monthly reports. It is operations, not just maintenance. See the full scope on our work page.
Do you handle Odoo or other platforms too?
We do. Parameter also provides Odoo implementation and support. If your stack includes both WordPress and Odoo, we can manage operations for both under one agreement.
What does the migration actually cost?
Migration is included at no extra charge when you sign up for Protect + Pulse. For Protect-only clients who need help moving to a new host, we scope the migration during the free audit and quote it separately. Most single-site moves are straightforward.
